Birth Doula

What does doula support look like?

As a doula, my goal is TRUE informed consent. My desire is for you to understand all of your options, and encourage you to use your voice to advocate for what YOU want out of your birth experience. I understand the birth process well, and I can offer education, resources, and techniques to support your unique journey throughout pregnancy, delivery, and the initial postpartum period.

A birth doula can:

  • help you create your birth plan
  • talk through your fears/concerns
  • offer you 24/7 text and phone support
  • help your partner support you during birth
  • provide resources and information
  • give you counter-pressure and hip-squeezes
  • provide water or food during labor
  • grab you coffee on an especially hard day
  • suggest different positions to help you labor more effectively
  • encourage you to advocate for the birth you want
  • and most importantly, remind you of just how strong you are.

Birth Doula Support

Prenatal

  • During prenatal visits (2) you will learn the multiple ways a doula can support you through your experience, discuss your desires and questions, and leave with a list of topics to think about and discuss with your partner.
  • As your doula, I am available via Voxer, text, and calls and will do my best to respond to all messages and questions in a timely manner.

On-call support during the two weeks surrounding your due date

  • I will not make any additional travel plans throughout your "estimated due month", and I am guaranteed to be on call 24/7. Before booking with me as your birth doula, I will communicate if I have any plans during your birth window. Should you still choose to work with me if I have travel plans during that month, I will coordinate backup doula support and provide a time for you to meet with the backup doula before delivery.

Unlimited support during your labor and delivery

  • During your prenatal visits, we will form a plan that best suits your needs and desires for in-person support.

Postpartum visits

  • Your first visit will take place 36-48 hours postpartum and usually lasts around an hour. Second visit 3-6 days postpartum and usually lasts around an hour. During the first visit, I will check in, make sure feeding is going well, parents feel comfortable and supported, have time to talk about how things went, answer any questions you may have, and help where needed. This visit involves support, answering questions, listening, holding space, and providing resources where needed.
  • The second postpartum visit will be at the parents' discretion, and it can be done in various ways. Some prefer to wait for the second visit until the partner returns to work or would like additional assistance with children around 2 weeks postpartum. We will have conversations throughout pregnancy and postpartum to determine the most supportive.
  • If travel (beyond 1 hour drive time one way) is necessary for doula support: The client will cover the cost of travel, transportation, and lodging upon booking. Prenatal and postpartum visits may be held virtually if travel further than 30 miles from my home is necessary.
